| The worst of Gilliam's loose fantasy and myth Trilogy, it still has an imaginative story and some great performances. Even though the story is imaginative, the script could have been significantly tighter. From a theory point of view, the most interesting aspects of this film, self-reflexive storytelling and a narrative about narrative, are glossed over in favor of some entrancing visuals. This film comes very close to being remarkable, it just doesn't quite reach. Filmmakers should watch this film and learn from it's mistakes. All the art direction and name actors in the world can't make a so-so script great. At least, the problems don't seem to come from laziness, they just seem to be slightly misguided. |
