Comments
The fact that this film spawned three (so far) successful films attests to it's quality. Still a landmark of Sci-fi and horror, it really is the film that won't quit, as it is so often imitated and referenced it has actually influenced American culture.

Ripley is one of the first representations of a strong woman on the screen, and not only strong in a quiet, feminine way, she is strong in a male way. In fact, as Ripley, Sigourney Weaver is an icon.

But this film is more than a representation, it is genuinely a good, thrilling, Hollywood film. The common complaint that Hollywood tries to sell roller-coaster rides instead of stories is well warranted, but this is a film that creates a ride from a narrative, instead of a narrative from a ride.
