| The focus of intense protests concerning what was criticized as blasphemous fictionalizing, the strength of The Last Temptation of Christ has largely outlasted the voices of its critics. It should be looked at for what it is, a beautiful film that actually got me thinking about religion in a way I never had. In fact, prior to the film I looked at religion, organized or not, as largely dogmatic grandstanding and righteous condescention. This film made me think about Jesus, period. Its truly an under-rated film that should be viewed again without the distractions it was framed in when it was released. Additionally, this is best opportunity to see Willem Dafoe in a role worthy of his talents. |
