Summary
A disparate group of down on their luck expatriates (exiles and outcasts) find that whatever it is they are individually running from is significantly better than the Central American hell hole they find themselves hiding in. They decide to take an extremely dangerous job transporting nitro-glycerin through mountainous jungle in the hopes that the pay they receive will get them home, or at least away from where they are.

While purporting to be based on the novel, the film might also be considered to be a remake of the French film “Wages of Fear”. I have a hard time choosing which version I like better. Still and all, this is a great film about an unbelievably bad situation this group of men finds themselves in. Monstrous trucks filled with nitro-glycerin driving across swaying wooden suspension bridges across a seemingly infinite gorge...that’s what this movie is.
